Snowpiles is an abstract painting that unfolds through rhythm rather than intention. Its
surface is shaped by the natural movement of my hand across the canvas, allowing the
painting to become a trace of an internal rhythm rather than the execution of a
predetermined image.
The work begins without a plan or fixed destination. Instead, it is guided by attention to
colour, surface, and the quiet dialogue between gesture and response. Each mark invites the
next, and the painting gradually reveals itself through the act of making. The finished image
is not something imposed but something discovered.
Its rhythm spreads gently across the canvas, moving largely through horizontal and vertical
currents. Yet these directions are continually interrupted by subtle irregularities, small
deviations that resist repetition and order. These shifts evoke the uneven pulse of lived
experience, where rhythm is felt rather than measured.
The palette is muted and delicate, built from layers of many pigments that dissolve into soft
greys and restrained hues. Although restrained in appearance, the painting is rich in colour,
built from countless small gestures and nuanced shifts in tone that reward sustained looking.
