The work depicts a hypothetical authoritarian and controlling social system in which individuals
are subjected to standardisation, and ideological influence. The painting represents one of the final
stages of propaganda’s influence, where individuals have become physically and emotionally
exhausted, indifferent, and no longer react to the system. Work symbolises a society in which, under
the long-term influence of propaganda and systemic pressure, individuals begin to adopt a single
way of thinking, lose critical thinking, and become passive, exhausted, and obedient.
The composition is constructed like a puzzle, where one fragment is displaced and placed on top,
deliberately disrupting the entire system. This element shows that even a seemingly strict and stable
system is in fact fragile. A single alteration is enough to expose the lie at its core and reveal that the
beliefs sustaining the system are built on deception. The work also emphasises how propaganda and
restrictive political systems exhaust individuals to the point where they lose their identity. The
symbolic “long noses” refer to the empty promises and illusions given by the system, which remain
unfulfilled, leaving people stripped of individuality.
The title “Birds” is used ironically, as it contrasts with the depicted state of confinement, fatigue,
and the controlling influence of propaganda within the system.
