Nothing to get excited about
54 x 125 x 8 cm_distemper on linen mounted on wood_2024
I’ve witnessed a layer of distemper paints cracking today while taking off the canvas from its support. The ash grey colour surface suddenly got fractured into many different traces. My gaze was fallowing and resting upon them. It felt different. At first silent, the plane surface started to bend and move along the split parts. Giving more and more importance to its existence. As if those broken bits and pieces brought it to life.
It got me thinking about imperfection. About how I treat materials – to embrace their limitations, to be astounded by them, to show their fragile nature, to be surrounded by all the features of the work that can be seen as a bad painting or unfinished one.
But when does something finally come to completion?
