This painting is inspired by a childhood photo of my younger brother, sitting
with a serious, almost comically intense expression while listening to music.
The image remained with me as a quiet portrait of concentration, imagination,
and the private worlds children create for themselves.
I chose not to paint his face, instead withholding this part of the image as a
gesture of privacy and protection — a boundary between what can be shared
and what remains personal.
The pink form above emerged intuitively during the process of painting. It
became a gesture from the present, a loose mark hovering over the memory
— like the moment of waking from a dream, when childhood images are still
vivid but already beginning to fade.
“Gangsta’s Paradise” exists between past and present: between a memory I
hold close and the life I continue to build. The work reflects on remembrance,
transformation, and the boundaries that shape our relationship with the past.
