Painting series ”Men”
12x 40x30x4cm, acrylic and oil on canvas
The portrait series “Men” explores human relationships and turns a reflecting look inwards, drawing both psychological and physical inspiration for the creative process. The focus lies in the symbiotic functioning of body and mind, emphasizing their inseparable connection. This harmony between the physical and mental is expressed through the gazes of the portrayed figures, where the interaction between body and spirit becomes apparent.
This series emerged from an exploration of the relationships between men and women, and how these dynamics shape one’s perspective on life from early childhood. In the portrait series I reflect on the significant male figures in my life, revisiting memories associated with them. The portraits include my father and grandfather, often the first men to shape one’s life, along with close friends, former lovers, and brief physical acquaintances. Each portrait conveys the profound impact these men have had on my life, merging personal history with artistic expression.
The painting series originally consists of 28 works, of which 12 would be exhibited at the 2024 Young Painter Prize. Each painting measures 40×30 cm and is created in acrylic and oil on canvas. The series was completed in 2024.
