2024 Finalists

The project “Greeting” came about after 5 years of working in customer service. I noticed a strange paradox that Lithuanians tend to not say hello or not respond to a greeting. When you have been doing this kind of work for a long time, existential questions start to arise: why don’t they say hello to me? Do I belong to a different social class? Am I invisible? I have created a tape that acts as a calming object for some and a hypnotic one for others. The tape changes depending on the colour of the light. I naively hope that people will become hypnotized and start saying hello.

A greeting is a sign to show that you see the other person, to show them respect. It is an essential moment of communication.

This project was made during my Bachelor Studies in Vilnius Academy of Arts.
